While I was cleaning up my room, I found ten of 39 cents stamps.

I heard that the price of stamps rised to 42 cents on this May.

Can I still use 39 cents stamps if I buy 2 cents stamps?

  1. OF COURSE!! just add the additional postage to bring it up to the current postage.

I cleared out a stamp collection once, and used a bunch of mint stamps that were only good at face value, but they were old but still goof for postage.

  2. You'd need to buy some one-cent stamps to go with those two-cent stamps you're talking about, since it takes three cents to make 39 into 42!

But yes, you can still use the 39-cent stamps. You can use stamps of *any* denomination on an envelope, as long as the total amount of postage is there. If you wanted to (and if you had room) you could mail a letter with 42 one-cent stamps on it. The post office doesn't care.

  3. yes, you can still use 39 cents stamps, as long as you pair them with other stamps so that it equals the correct number...so yes, if you buy 2 cents stamps, or even use more than one 1 cent stamps, you can use your 39 cent stamps.

  4. yes

  5. if you add THREE cents of postage, sure you can!

  6. Sure, or you can just take them back to the Post Office and they will give you $3.90 for them or new stamps, with an extra $.30 . (Stamps can always be turned in for cash, they are as good as money)

  7. thisldo4now is incorrect...  stamps cannot be returned for cash for sanitary reasons.

Any stamp ever issued by the USPS, with the except of several high value special purpose stamps issued prior to 1960 can be used.  If the stamp is less than the current rate, 42 cents, just add additional stamps as needed to bring it up to 42 cents.
