Question:

Can I still use my Philippine Passport before it's Expiration Date??

I am going back (visiting) to the Philippines last week of November 08. My Passport is expiring on the 18th of December 08.. I plan to renew it in the Philippines since they are implementing this MRP thing and needs personal appearance that i find it too costly going to the Phil. Consulates in the US just to get your thumbprints.. huh!

So, im hoping to get some advise if i can still use it going back home?.. besides, what's the purpose of having an expiration date if it has to be 6 months valid?? so confusing.... really need your advise on this... thanks!

  1. As a general rule of thumb: you need to have 6 months left on your passport to go to a FOREIGN country. You can use your passport to go to the issuing country up till the expiration date without any difficulties.

  2. you can use still use your passport as long as it is valid. but you can't never go out to another country if you will not renew it. If you will come back in the Philippines, you can still use it and renew it in on December. There are lots of Agencies who can help you in renewing your passport if you don't want to line-up. Even if you don't need help from the accredited agencies you still have to go  DFA for personal appearance.

  3. Use your old passport and renew it in the Philippines.  Queuing is exciting at the Department of Foreign Affairs because you will meet a lot of your countrymen in the line-ups.
