Hi there,

Thanks for your time.

My husband and I recently applied for credit...well in the process my husband gave his social to a scammer and so now we have a fraud alert on both our credit reports.

Can I use my current credit cards with this fraud alert on my credit?

What will happen at the two places we applied for credit at? (we applied befpre teh fraud alert was placed).

When my husband placed his fraud alert they asked for a phone number for creditors to call--not with me though I hand to hang up half way through after putting in my social becuase our two year old locked me out of the house while I was on the phone...so now what?

  1. You will not be able to use your credit cards with a fraud alert because if having knowledge of this and still trying to use them, you could go to jail.

  2. You'll be able to use your credit cards just fine.  It will probably take a bit longer to open accounts for charges with the alert on the account and the business places will need to verify your identity.

  3. Of course

  4. You can still use existing credit accounts.  The fraud alert applies to future credit applications.

As for the 2 that you applied for before the fraud alert, I would call them and inquire.

As a side note, slow down on the credit cards.  You are opening yourself up for trouble not to mention low credit scores.
