I need a spray bottle to clean my birds cage, but my mom put bleach in it a long time ago..

I need to clean the cage today and can't go out to buy a new spray bottle.

I was wondering if it were still safe to use it after i washed it out?

Thank you!

  1. You shouldn't use that spray bottle just in case.  The bleach may not fully come out and if the bird comes in contact with bleach or chemicals then the bird will get sick.  You should just wait to get a new spray bottle.  For now take out what you can and just put that in the bathtub or a big sink and rinse it out until you can get a new spray bottle.

    I hope I helped!

  2. use hot water to rinse it out very well til you cant smell bleach anymore. its ok to use on the cage..just NOT THE BIRD

  3. i dont think you should use it just to be on the safe side. because if there was bleach inside the bottle and you sprayed it on the cage and your bird licked it( cuz they like to bite the cage..well my birds to....)your bird is going to die for sure. so just wait a little while to buy a new one then you  can wash the birds cage.

  4. This bottle will be just fine. Some of the things in your birds cage should actually be disinfected with bleach.  Use a solution of 5 oz to 1 gal of bleach.  Use this solution on perches and food dishes after they have been washed with soap. Let stand for 10 minutes, then rinse good.  A birds cage should be disinfected this way at least once a month.  Soap and water do not kill bacteria that live in the bottom of the cage and all the places that are joints and corners.  Take the cage outside and wash, then spray with bleach solution, let stand and then rinse well.  Please read my profile.
