I was 2 car payments behind, payed one yesterday, so am 1 payment behind. Today a man came to repossess my car. He had the wrong VIN number, I guess and did not take it. If I make my behind payment tomorrow, can I stop it from being repossessed?

  1. Pay up and you will be okay.

They don't want your car and will wait a short time if you just made a payment.

The collector probably didn't have time to receive the notice that you had paid yet.

  2. Yes, pay your bills! Its  called living within you means. Work out a deal with the bank you have the loan with. Having worked for a repo agency I have very little sympathy for you. you have to be behind on you car payment multiple times and for multiple months for them to put a repo request through. The car isn't yours until you have it completely paid off! That is in the terms of your loan. Consider selling that car an buying a cheaper car or using public transit (if it is available) until you can afford a car.

  3. Call the police 75% of repossession are " controlled theft".If you have all of your ducks in a row and can back up what you say the police dept. will stand on your side

  4. The best thing that you can do is talk to the lender. IF you don't talk to them then all bets are off! IF you lose the car then  you are liable for the difference between what it sells for and what you owe on it. The lender can come after you for that.

  5. Park another car very close behind yours so they can't get it out!  Then call the lender and try to work something out.

  6. Its amazing how many people let things go to the final stage before panicking.

You miss a car payment. Ring the bank. Im so sorry, I didnt get paid on time/spent too much money/got laid off etc and I will pay on X date.

If you pay on X date, there is no problems.

Getting 2 payments behind is lazy. If you cant afford the car, you ring the bank and say I cant afford my car, what are my options?

You can declare bankrupcy, or you can do a consumer credit thing, where you pay less per month but over a longer term.

Get your act together and pay your payments.

I have monthly payments that I break down into weekly payments. Its easier for me to pay $150 a week, instead of $600 a month. So I pay the lender $150 a week. This might be a better option for you if you cant handle a months payment in one hit.

  7. The guy may have been looking for another car that is like yours.  Can you stop a repo? Yes and the best way to do that is PAY the payment asap.  If you are unable to pay in the morning then at least call them and tell them when you can make that late payment.  National finance companies generally do not put out an Order of Repossession until the third payment is due but there are exceptions.  Other ways to stop a repo; Keep you car hidden - In the gar. behind a locked fence. Keep it blocked in by another car or at another location.  Just remember you will eventually have to make that payment or turn it over to them.  Hopefully the guy was just there looking for a different vehicle.  You didnt say who held the note on the car.  If it is a Car Lot that holds your note then one car lot might do it one way while the next place does it another way and they generally have there own inhouse repoman. If your financed with a national auto finance company then they will nearly always send the Order for Repossession to a third party aka "the repo man". He generally does not get paid unless he repo's the car.  But, no one can repo your car if they cant find it, Right?

  8. If you work out a deal with the lien holder you can probably stop it.
