Question:

Can I store data (like on an external drive) on an iPod and still use it to play my music and videos?

I've used my iPod as an external drive to move data from on Mac to another with no difficulty, but I cleared it of music and video's first. That was a 4th generation model 20GB. Now iPods have more space than my Hard Drive (MacBook) and I only have around 30GB of media and I am wanting to know if I would be able to use a 160GB model to act as both music/video player and external drive for data.

  1. I use mine for both.  I use it for transferring songs from comp to comp as files while still using it as a music player.  I do the same for pictures too.

  2. all you have to do is enable disk mode in preferences and you should be good to go

  3. yup, you can use it as both.
