Question:

Can I store maps on SD cards for my Garmin nuvi?

Can someone explain to me the procedure for updating maps for the Garmin nuvi? I know there's a way to do it by connecting the Garmin to a PC using a USB cable, and updating the map stored in the Garmin itself. However, I'd like to have several different maps (say one for the US and one for Europe), so I wonder if I can store each map on an SD card, then just pop in the card when I want to use a map. Will Garmin recognize the new map and start routing with it? Also, how big an SD card do I need, 2, 4 or 8 gigs?

  1. You can store maps on an SD Card however it will be easier and cheaper to just buy them already on the card. You can buy a map update for the unit and it will update the maps in the unit. I just bought this for $59.00 from EdgeGPS.com. I just checked EdgeGPS.com's website and they have the City Navigator Europe NT on the SD Card for $135.00. It looks like it is the same price for the DVD. You can just stick the data card in the GPS and it will just start working.

If you are going to purchase i would highly recommend going to www.edgegps.com as they were fantastic help. I think there phone number is 877-477-6281.
