Question:

Can I study in Havana, Cuba?

Now I am in the second year of high school, and I would love to study in Cuba at some university later on.

I am quite interested in international affairs and diplomacy, but also culture and arts, such as dance.

However, I've heard, that for foreigners, it is only possible to study at spanish or cuban culture courses. Is that true?

Thanks for all answers.

PS: I love cuba, cuban people, their culture, dance and everything, so please do not tell me I shouldn't study there. I know that now it is quite difficult for the foreigners in cuba because of the socialism but who knows what's gonna happen after two or more years with cuba without fidel.

  1. That's great. Cuba has an excellent education system with a 100% literacy rate. I've personally met many Cuban professors who are really dedicated to their academic fields as well as their teaching methodology and their students. However, if you are a US citizen, you are not allowed to visit Cuba by yourself and by default, you are not allowed to study there by yourself. Currently Americans seeking to travel legally to Cuba must do so under the aegis of an educational, humanitarian and religious organization possessing a special license from the Treasury Department. So, your only option is to find an educational organization (college, university) licensed to conduct educational tours in Cuba.  I know it's a shame and I hope things change in the near future. Now, if you are not a US citizen, then feel free to inquire about university courses and admissions for citizens of your country.

    Good luck!

  2. I believe Harvard has a study-abroad program in Cuba.  I don't think you can enroll directly in a Cuban university though.
