Can I substitute South African mielie-meal for cornmeal to make muffins?

It seems to be finer ground than cornmeal. Should that make a difference?

  1. Yes....only the colour makes the different.

    mielie-meal is white...while cornmeal is yellow.

    White cornmeal (mealie meal) is more traditional in Africa. It is also popular in the Southern United States for making cornbread. Blue cornmeal is made from the rarer blue corn or by adding blue food coloring.
