Question:

Can I substitute Turtle Wax for Surf Wax?

We are going on vacation soon, and I plan to go skimboarding. I read that you are supposed to put surf wax on your skimboard for better grip. I do not have surf wax, but I have Turtle Wax, and was wondering if the Turtle Wax could be substituted for the Surf Wax.

Thanks for your help!

  1. No way, absolutely not.  Car wax is slippery.  You need real surf board wax.

  2. No! Surf wax costs $1. a bar at any surf shop. Surf wax is designed to make you stick to it, car wax is designed to make cars shine. Don't try ski wax either, it makes skis slippery (I know I tried once, 40 years ago, and I had to clean it off my surf board, and it ruined my session).
