  1. it depends on what you are trying to get out of using a rash guard. If your getting one to use under a wetsuit, dont bother you dont need one. If you dont wear a wetsuit, anything pretty much can substitute as already said, a t-shirt is usually the easiest.

  2. I guess so, but I doubt that Under Armor will hold up the way a rash guard does. They are both made from synthetic fibers, but the TYPE of fiber is important. rash guards are designed to GUARD AGAINST RASHES, and really any type of cloth covering will do that. That also r****d UV rays, so they guard against sunburn (and ultimately skin cancer) and they are designed to dry quickly, so they don't hold water and weigh you down (or accelerate body cooling - hypothermia is not cool.).

If Under Armor is made up of the same synthetics, then it might work.

  3. you can get one fro a descent price at the outlet stores. I dont know where you live but in california we have many outlet stores such as the rip curl in san clemente i got mine for $20.00.  i have also seen many at the hurley, quicksilver, and pac sun stores for the same price.

  4. You can substitute any sort of shirt for a rash guard.  If I wear a shirt rather than a neoprene vest I just wear a t-shirt.

  5. I recently stopped using my rash guard and put on some more sunscreen to block the sun's rays (yeah, rash guards probably block me better).  One day, i was surfing, and the sun wasn't out and the wind was blowing and i was FREEZING!  The rash guards keep some moisture on you so,  I decided to get use to rashes the hard way (wasn't that bad actually).  But on a very hot day when the sun is intense and the wind pretty calm, I may consider wearing a rash guard.  (just bring one just in case)

About the prices, rash guards are around $20 if you look hard enough, mine was, under armour might be really weird plus it isn't uv protectent... or you could borrow a friend's

  6. It will prevent a rash, however i wear a rash guard to shield from the sun and i don't think under armor does that. If you buy a rash guard make sure it blocks uva rays

  7. It'll work for a little while but, you need to upgrade to a rash gaurd soon, I use my rash gaurd because of the sun and to prevent the rashes, under armor is only going to do the rash part.  Best thing to do is just get the official gear.  Good luck, and wish me luck =D, surf contest this saturday.

  8. If you want to prevent a rash just use a t shirt. But trust me the best way is just not to wear any rash guard at all... Ive gotten rashes with rash guards on, just as much as with them off.

  9. yah i guess you can
