Question:

Can I substitute other forms of ID in place of a driver's license?...?

For a work clearance form I need to present a, b, or c:

If you are a U.S. Citizen, you can present:

a.) Driver's License and a Social Security Card, or

b.) Driver's License and Birth Certificate, or

c.) U.S. Passport

I don't have a driver's license and won't have one any time soon. Could I use a California State ID or (even better since I don't have the first yet) a university ID instead?

  1. talk to the HR manager at the office you intend to work at let them know what is going on and then allow them to advise you

  2. In most cases a state issued I.D. will do.

  3. You can use the state ID because it's a government form of ID, but not the uni ID. They just say driver's license because they assume people of age to drive are licensed to do so.

  4. Normally any kind of state or federally issued ID will work.

  5. Looks like they are being very specific.

I would go on-line and look for the website for California DMV and check there before hiking over to actual DMV and getting in line. Find out if you can use a current valid state ID instead of a Drivers License.

I have never had a problem making that substitution but then I don't live in California.

  6. Depending on what you need it for, most places won't take a school id. Go to the DMV and get a state id made. You'll need one anyway.

  7. as you wish

  8. A California state ID is always as proper as a California Driver's license. They are entirely interchangeable except that one gives you the privilege to drive and one does not.

If you have a passport, that's usually better, because it requires more ID to attain.

Heh- I almost didn't get back into the US from Canada cuz I'd lost my ID and onlt had my birth Certificate and a costco card that had my picture on it. I think the only reason they let me back in was becasue of my California accent and the amount of times I said "dude, c'mon"

  9. in australia ... as my husband doesn't drive .. he uses his birth certificate, medicare card, and bank cards that has his name on it for 100 point check ...
