Question:

Can I substitute polyurethane finish for wood glue?

It's not going to deal with heavy loads like a book shelf (which i would use screws and brackets for anyway).

I understand that polyurethane finish does not penetrate deep into wood and will loosen upon impacts...

Nevermind, i might go and drop $5 for wood glue anyway. I just want some opinions...

  1. Do not use it if it is water based.  Better than poly, use thinners based laquer

  2. The polyurethane will "tack" materials temporarily into place, but just dont sneeze too hard nearby if you want to keep it that way!

Id say spend the five dollars or risk spending more when the joints collapse landing parts on your stereo, bumping the mother-in-law on the head as they fall and finally  knocking your coffee onto your laptop.

    Go for the glue :-)
