Question:

Can I successfully plant an evergreen groundcover in September (fall)?

I am in hardiness zone 7, southwest, very humid and hot.

I want an evergreen groundcover for my gardens that will wipe out the weeds next year.

Can I plant this groundcover in the fall (September/October) and have it take hold and spread or is that a bad time for planting?

Thanks!!

  1. Zone 7 would be pushing your luck a little, but could be ok. You should not have any ground freezing so might be ok. The risk with Fall planting is having enough time for the root system to develop. I would try it, I live in zone 6 but do not get ground freeze until late Nov. most years and would be willing to take the chance. ( planted Arbor Vitae, did Ok. ) Be sure to keep watering.
