Question:

Can I sue International House of Pancakes?

Yesterday was my first visit to IHOP. I was SOOOO excited. I had longed to go to a place where they not only served pancakes but pancakes from around the world. I was also excited to try out my Chinese, Spanish, and Russian with all of the international customers and waitstaff. Well, it turns out the only thing international about IHOP is that the guy who washes the dishes is Mexican. Can I sue IHOP for false advertising? Answers from lawyers only please.

  1. y would u b bothered wasting money on lawyers and court cases, for something so petty and stupid! there is also like a 100% chance you would lose

  2. im no lawyer but i know stuff ok false avertising if anything was advertised to you if they did and there is another cacth if your on one of there lists and you've asked to be tooken off u can sue, also go another time and try speaking another language if they don't give out (ex, spanish)than it may not mean they're avertising international but then is your key to sue

  3. Can I sue you for the time I lost reading thus stupid question?

  4. why did they overcook your pancake? lol

  5. Are you actually serious?

Why so malicious? Did you really lose much by visiting IHOP and finding out it's different from what you imagined? I am not a lawyer but I can tell you that you're being rather irrational here. You can sue them if you really want to, but you will probably lose.

If you have a complaint, just send it to them.

Odds are you've misunderstood something to begin with. No need to make a big deal about it.

  6. They do not advertise that they sell pancakes from around the world, that is merely their trade name.

Microsoft isn't a company that sells very small, soft things.

Google isn't a company with a million million of something.

    Yahoo! isn't always very happy.

KFC doesn't sell chicken that was fried in Kentucky.

  7. Sure, you can try it, but first, go back into the IHOP and explain your proposed actions first.

If they offer you a free meal AND a beer, I'd be cancelling said suing !

    :-P

  8. thats a joke right?

cause wayyyy to many people crowding up the system as is with c**p that isnt really a big deal.

    just get over it.

thumbs down all you want, its the truth though.

  9. Yeah you can.But forgive them

  10. No you can not sue IHOP...And if you want to sure go ahead. But i can guarantee you will be out of a lot of money and you will get none of that money back if you try to sue them

  11. You can sue anybody.  This is a case no intelligent lawyer will touch.  There are many interpretations of a word.  A business or person cannot be held liable for your interpretation of a word that doesn't match theirs.  For example, the 'International' could mean the menu includes recipes that are more than just American, easy enough to do considering that America is a place of immigrants.  It does not have to mean that every menu item is clearly labeled with its country of origin.  It does not have to mean that it has a multinational staff.  It does not mean that speaking foreign languages is encouraged.

Additionally, trdaemarked business names advertise only a business's existemce and type of business.  It not direct advertising and therefore cannot be considered 'false' advertising if what they do should seem to run counter to what the name implies.  For example, a business in Los Angeles that calls itself the 'New York Deli' cannot be sued successfully for false advertising because it is not in New York.

A little common sense goes a long way.  Were you to actually sue over this, common sense would prevail.  Any attorney that would take your case deserves to be sanctioned.

  12. NO, because the only thing about IHOP is that they have franchises in other countries and you were not smart enough to know that about them.

  13. No

  14. It is my opinion as a lawyer that you are a moron.

  15. What the...? Idiot.

  16. Don't be so petty , it's people like you that make our world suck
