Can I sue my apartment complex?

Question

First of all, I'm not one of those people who goes on suing everybody for every little thing that happens. I usually let things slide.

I was injured at my apartment complex last Friday (8/22/2008).

The concrete stairs that lead up to my apartment were in pretty bad shape and had cracks throughout. While I was walking down from my apartment, the main concrete part that holds everything together collapsed and I fell through (it was about a 5 foot fall). I injured my leg, arm, and back. My back and leg hurt so much that I can barely walk.

When I told my apartment manager what had happened, all she told me was that I should "relax"

My question is whether I can sue them or not.

I took pictures of my injuries and pictures of the collapsed stairs the day of the accident.
