Can I switch from Ortho Tri Cyclen to Trinessa midpack? ?

After a 2 year break from BC, I'm back on.. I started with Trinessa for a month ( my pharmacist substituted the Ortho prescription and I didn't notice until I got home) . I broke out a bit at first, but my skin did settle by the end of the month. However, one of the main reasons I got back on the pill was to clear up my skin so for my 2nd month, I asked for Ortho instead. I'm 2 wks into this pack and I'm breaking out like crazy.. on top of that, I gained 5 lbs! I seriously regret moving over to Ortho, and I'm picking up a prescription of Trinessa this evening.. I'm starting it midpack tomorrow.. what's the worst that can happen? It's supposed to be the generic, so isn't it the same thing?

  1. Ortho Tri Cyclen and Trinessa are the exact same thing. They same doses of the same hormones. They have different names because they are marketed by different companies. But they are the same, so switching from one to the other will make no difference. Any side effects you have from one will be the same on the other.

Your body may just be adjusting to being back on the pill. If your acne doesn't clear up, call your doctor. There may be a better pill for you.
