I have had a bladder infection creeping up on me for a few days now. My boyfriend has a recent prescription of Cephalexin 500mg that he isn't using. Would it be ok for me to take this? If so, how much should I take and for how long? I am allergic to amoxycillin.

  1. Don't take his Cephalexin.  It's important for whatever antibiotic you get--to finish the entire prescription, even when you are feeling better--plus that may not be appropriate for your infection.

I'd go into the doctor, get a prescription antibiotic--and take it for how long your doctor tells you.  Make sure your doctor knows your allergy to amoxicillin.  There are OTC meds that can help you with pain from your bladder infection (talk to the pharmacist).

  2. I wouldn't mess around to this... bladder infections can be caused by some pretty nasty bacteria, and if you take the wrong medicine, or you don't take it for long enough, it can just kill a few of the bacteria and then it will come back much worse.

Ok, I just looked it up an NO!!! Don't take it. People who are allergic to penacillins like amoxycillan are likely to be allergic to cephalexin also. DO NOT TAKE IT!!

If you don't have the money to see a doctor, go to a pharmacy and talk to a pharmacist. They may have a non-prescription medicine that they can recommend to you that will help.

  3. simply no
