i take vicodin for severe pain (it is legal and prescribed by my doctor)

i'm also having trouble sleeping because i'm traveling with someone who snores, so i'd like to take regular old over-the counter sleeping pills to help me to sleep

i just want to make sure that its not dangerous to mix these two drugs (i know that there are things you're not supposed to mix with vicodin, so i just want to play it safe)

thanks

  1. I dont see a problem, but always read for side effects.

  2. I would say No, to be on the safe side, but always talk to a Dr, or pharmacist first.

  3. First and far most ...call  the pharmacy that you use to fill your scripts for the medications your doc prescribes.......... in my opinion....If that is all you are taking then you should be fine maybe you will be extra sleepy....or some what groggy and harder to wake..... Most sleeping pills have diphenhydramine in them to make you drowsy...this is the same active ingredient as regular ( generic) over the counter benadryl. PLEASE DO NOT EXCEED two sleeping pills...if they have 25mg of diphenhydramine ( per Pill)...This will give you a total dose of 50mg...of benadryl in conjunction with your prescribed amount of vicodin.......Again I do encourage you to call your pharmacy for a definite answer according to your prescription profile....... BE safe ...Take Care!!!

  4. When you combine two medications that both have depressant effects (such as narcotic painkillers and sleeping pills) you run the risk of them affecting you much more than you would think, and could possibly be fatal. You really need to ask your doctor or pharmacist if your sleeping pill is safe to take with your prescribed strength of vicodin.
