Can I take Wellbutrin with large amounts of caffeine?

I take in about the equivalent amount of caffeine as 6 cups of coffee. I'm not nervous, excited, or shaky, and I can sleep just fine at night.

So, is it ok then (since it's not effecting me) to take caffeine while taking Wellbutrin XL (450 mg)?

  1. you should give up the caffeine or at least limit it.  Caffeine is a drug which can nteract with other drugs.  It may prevent you from getting the full effect of the medication!

  2. Well you should never drink caffeine while taking a phsyc medicine. Why, it effects the way the medication works.

  3. 1. Ask the doctor who prescribed it.

    2. Better yet, ask the pharmacist who filled it.

    3.  Did it come with instructions and statements of what you should not eat or drink when taking this medicine?

  4. NO!!

stop drinking coffee if you are taking that... RIGHT AWAY!!!

  5. I take Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) and Lexapro (10 mg) - and I drink probably four cups of coffee per day average.  Nobody told me I couldn't drink coffee - but I guess it is a good thing to ask.

You might make a quick phone call to where you got your prescription filled and ask them - and/or - check the Wellbutrin website.  450 mg of Wellbutrin is a rather high dose.

Best of Luck to you :-)
