  1. Sure you can import footage from a pd150 with another camcorder, just make sure it takes the same tape format. If you shoot your footage on miniDV cassettes, you should not have a problem, as you could use any miniDV camcorder, however, if you use a professional grade DVcam cassette (the pd150 can take both), you will need another DVcan camcorder, which are only professional camcorders.

Unfortunately, I believe that in using lower end miniDV camcorder, you would have some quality loss, unless it is an HD camera or something. This is because the pd150 has better resolution than consumer cameras, so I don't see how a cheap camcorder could import footage at a better quality than its own. I do not know this for sure, but you can try asking the sales department at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/HelpCen...

...they are extremely knowledgeable and will get back to you in a day or so. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck!

  2. if the pd150 shot the tape in miniDV mode, then it can be played in any miniDV device, including firewire transfer to computer. if the pd150 was used in the DVcam mode, then no it won't likely play because the tape moves at a faster speed than standard DV. Some high end DV players can playback a DVcam tape as the actual data on the tape is the same as DV, the deck just has to be able to handle the speed difference.

Speaking of resolution, the data stream for DV, DVcam and panasonic DVCpro are identical!! There is no gain or loss of resolution between any of these formats. DVCpro is unique in that it uses metal partical tape in order to have a listenable linear audio track for cuing purposes, otherwise it would interchange with DV and DVcam as well.

  3. Probably not, but I would check with Sony support. I'm sure someone in live help will have the answer. Follow the link below>>>>>>>
