Can I take an a level on income support? uk?

I am thinking of taking an a level in september but im on income support. The college say I can as is only 5 hours a week and I can do the course for free. But im still unsure. Thanks.

Yes.  You can study up to 16 hours a week and stay on IS.  It might be worth looking at he Access Course as these are about 15 hours a week and the equivelant to 3 'A' levels meaning you can think about uni if you wish.  The advantages with this is that you are in classes with other adults - not silly 16 year olds, many of whom have no wish to work and can be very offputting!

  3. im not sure bout a level i was goin to do an access course in sept they told me i can and they will give me my travel expense and an extra £25 per week which is gud, they shud let you if it will lead to a job because you will not be on there system after that. gud luck.xx

  4. Yes as five hours is considered part time.  Try asking the college welfare officer who deals with this - he or she can advise you and let you know whether you need to tell the benefits agency.  All the best.
