Can I take my car to a body shop of my choice without my insurance making an estimate on it first?

  1. You pay good money to the Insurance company.  They have contracts with you and repair agencies.  You should always call them and start the claim.  Ask if your preferred body shop is on their list of approved agencies.

  2. Only if your insurance company works with that body shop. If they do, then the ins co will accept the estimate that of the body shop.

  3. Only if you are planning on paying the bill.  If the insurance company is paying, they will want to see it first.

  6. Yes,you can take it wherever you want to. The shop and insurance company are supposed to work it out.The insurance company can recommend a shop but you are not obligated to go there.
