I have to get an MRI done tomorrow night. Is it safe to take an iPod in there? I tried googeling it and I found mixed results.

  1. probably not...take it and ask them though. They usually have ear phones with music.

  2. No.  MRI is a giant Magnet, and a Ipod is metal.  I highly recommend you leave the ipod in the car!  I had a MRI a few months ago.  You have to be completely still, while the machine is capturing the images

  3. just to be on the safe side don't do it. Doesn't Mri use magnets or something? Ipod plus magnet = Broken i think.

  4. No you can't. The iPod has ferric metallic parts. That means metal that reacts to the magnetic field that is generated by the MRI. Nothing ferric goes in the MR. Ever. Can I just say that again? That means nothing reactive goes into the MR.

Besides, I don't think the iPod would well in the magnetic field anyways.

  5. No, but you can ask the MR technologist to give you MR safe headphones and have them choose a CD or station that you like. Comfort is absolutely vital with MR so that the images will be of high quality. If you have claustrophobia, go to a center that offers conscious sedation.
