I just got a blackberry pearl and am going to visit my family in Italy for the summer and it costs $1.29/minute to make phone calls when you are roaming internationally in Italy so I just want to put in a local sim card when I am there (which is what my dad does with his phone) is this possible with this phone? Has anyone done it before?

  1. Yes, but your phone must be unlocked.  Frequent travelers to other countries do this all the time.  If you just started a new service contract, your service provider may not be willing to unlock the phone for you.

If you need to unlock the phone, you can search for an unlock service on the internet that will do it, usually for $20 or less.

  2. You phone hase to be an UNLOCKED  gsm phone.   Your cell provider can walk you through the unlocking process. It will work. I did the same thing in Jamaica.
