Can I take the pill if I have the implant?

I had the implant put in in May and have had a constant period since then! I am going on holiday next week and have started to take the pill since last week to stop my period while I am away.

Is this safe to do this?

  1. No you can't take both together. I assume that you were warned that you might well get dysfunctional bleeding for at least 3 months and possibly as long as 6 months before you were given the implant?

You might be able to stop the bleeding with a drug called cyclokapron.

  2. No, it is not safe to do this.

The implant and contraceptive pill use the exact same hormones as eachother, so you should not take the pill whilst on the implant. Doing so would simply overdose you with the hormones progesterone and oestrogen which the implant and pill contain, and could cause you more menstrual problems, mood swings, headaches etc.

Just wear some tampons if you want to go swimming etc.

  3. Check with your doctor first to see that it is ok.

I know of someone who bled a lot on the injection and was prescribed the pill to stop it. ( I know you have an implant, but I am coming from the point of view that the injection is similar in that the hormones are stuck in your system).

Taking the pill along with the implant does not need to be dangerous, but self-medicating is. Please see your doctor and put your mind at rest and don't risk your health.

  4. No, I don't think you should be taking two hormonal contraceptives at once. Although it maybe ok to take Northeristerone, actually to be honest I'm not sure on this one.

  5. I don't think you should be using two hormonal contraceptives at once, unless this is what your doctor told you to do. I think you should see your doctor about the constant period and ask them, if you haven't already. They will hopefully be able to help you fix it.

  6. I don't think it is healthy to take two contraceptives together but I think that there is something that can be prescibed for heavy bleeding.

side effects of taking double the dose are headaches, mood swings, hair loss ,weight gain etc!
