I am 17 years old, I have just done my grade 7 drums and lots of children at my school have expressed an interest in having drum lessons.

I know the going rate it about £12-£14 for half an hour but since i'm not qualified.. I shall charge £10 for half an hour

I would only teach during the summer holidays and I am busy studying during term time.

  1. thats a heaps good idea

my drums are just sitting in the garage creating dust. no seriously wy didnt i think of that? i can make money by teaching kids at my school the drums :O

oh man, im gona make a sign right now.

n wy would it be illigal or sumthink. if ur just teaching kids you know. its the same as mowing someones lawn . n heaps of parents will be down with that coz $10 is cheap!  i used to pay 20. go for it. :D

  2. i think u sud charge something more like 9 pounds and 50 pents

but in canada, what i kno is that if you don't have any qualifications at all, like you taught urself everything n now can play like a pro, u can not send a student to a music test, so what i recommend is that u go n work for an organization, that way, you will defineately have pay at all times and they will probably give you the opportunity to get qualifications, you could also teach students and then after they are pretty good ask them to go to someone with qualifications to study and then see how far the student has gotten and then the new teacher can send the student to a test to be examined.

  3. Here  there are two issues involved : 1) teaching drum and 2) earning money .

If you are only thinking ofthe first, then go ahead and simply teach. However you are also thinking of earning due to pecuniary difficulties then do the best you can. Either join a some band group with some professional qulification , or let them choose for you the students.

  4. Absolutely, there is no formal qualification needed for that. I think it is a great idea. I found that when I taught it actually helped me also because some of the questions asked forced me to analyze parts of drumming that I'd never really thought about in great detail.
