I am 15 and speak fluent English and Spanish and I am really motivated to learn the language. Right now I have a couple of websites that teach you. But I also have heard that It can be challenging especially Kanji. Will I be able to do it or should I buy some kit or program?

  1. Books and programs will help. I taught myself Russian on my own, with just books. But having software would have helped. There are excellent resources available for learning kanji. Your strongest asset is that you are motivated. That will help a lot. You might also consider getting a Japanese penpal who speaks English... he/she could help you a lot in learning Japanese.

  2. It's possible.  Anything is possible.

I think you should start off with learning the characters first.  It's very important to know how to write them and what their sounds are.  After you master this, you'll pretty much be set!  From there, you just learn basic phrases and words.  Colors, the days of the month, etc...

After that, learn about sentence structure.  Try to make your own sentences.  If you know a native Japanese speaker, ask them to check your work sometimes.

Watch movies in Japanese, listen to Japanese music, etc...  Just immerse yourself in it.
