Im going to place a tarp like material along side the exterior of my house about 4 ft wide and 15 ft long on an angle to keep water away. I dont want it to look like an eye sore, can I plant grass on top of it somehow? How deep does the soil have to be? Im on a budget so I cant use concrete or pavers. Thanks in advance.

  1. Yes,  it won't live very long though.

  2. ive grown grass on some strange things but with a tarp its just a matter of will the grass be firmly rooted or will it just be able to slide off or get messed up when walked on. But yes, u can grow grass on anything. throw doen an inch or 2 mabey 3 inches tops of top soil and just use sod.

    Check this out ;)

  4. a tarp will just rot away underneath the dirt.  your best bet is to build a retaining wall with pavers which can be cheaply purchased at a building surplus warehouse (I bought some recently for $1 each which are about a foot wide) and only needing 15 ft + 4 ft that would be $19, cheaper than a tarp.
