Can I tow a car cross country with a trailer hitch?

I am a grad student and my friend has a newer car. He said he will tow me but can we do it with just a hitch attached to the back?

  2. If you have a front weal drive automatic or stick shift i would put it on a dolly. I knew a guy that had a 4sped slip in gear and burnt the bearings out of the motor.

  3. No..........use a car dolly for safety to you and the vehicle plus in many states the use of a dolly is required......

  4. im pretty sure you can as long as there are plates on the car ot what ever it may be

  5. you will have to check with the authorities for each state and find out if its ok   in nj  all wheels are supposed to be on the ground

  6. Go to U-haul and rent a car dolly, be on the safe side.

  7. Front wheel drive automatic-no , rear wheel drive auto you'll have to drop the drive shaft , Stick shift  , no problem . If you have a front wheel drive auto you can use a dolly .
