I am 42 years old and am going to run my 3rd 1/2 marathon this weekend. My longest run was 16 miles 3 weeks ago and I was sore but not dead. Should I push the envelope and try to train for a marathon on the 31st of November or wait for the next one after winter is over?

10k time 49.58

1/2 marathon time 207.36

  1. Go for it.  You have 3 months that should be plenty of time to add 10 miles to your longest run.

  2. Would really depend on your goals?  Are you satisfied with your times in the 10K and half marathon?

Once you can run a 1/2 marathon - a marathon is just twice!

In my opinion - you should wait improve your 10K and 1/2 marathon times. Concentrate on finding a marathon - for example Hawaii, Big Sur so you can go on vacation and relax after the race!  Good luck with your LSD - long slow distance ;-)

  3. There is no reason why you couldn't run a marathon by November. You may not do as well as you could, if you have a little more time to train, but you sound like you are in good shape.

Use the 1/2 marathon to boost you into the next marathon.
