Can I train my pet rat not to be nocturnal?

I reckon that if you want to have a pet to play with during the day you should get something other than a rat. I feel way too guilty to wake mine during the day, its awful if I have to get up in the middle of the night so I don't want to inflict that on anyone else.

No. Sorry. Ive tried didnt work. I tried with my rat, Tumz, and all he did was make noise day and night! UGH!

Of course you can!  Rats, especially happy well-adjusted rats who are given plenty of human love, will adjust to your schedule. The more time you spend with your rat on your own schedule, the more synchronized he will become.  They are still naturally nocturnal, so you can't expect him never to sleep during the day, but when it comes to these intelligent, social animals, waking them up to give them attention is a welcome wake-up call.  Please don't ever pass-up a chance to praise your rat some.  If he knew you wanted to let him sleep he would be a little preturbed.

Yes. Basically, keep him up during the day by taking him out to play with him lots.  Give him treats during the day.  Try to keep him up as much as possible so he will be exhausted and sleep through the night

rats arnt nocturnal. you could teach them to be awake at day time if you play with them during that time.

could try keeping him in the dark all day, then put a light on him at night.  might work?   dont know much about the things.
