  1. If he has been in for so many years then yes - it is possible to do it. Its actually a good question for recruiter's as they generally have the most up-to-date information available to them. I know because when he and I get married that's what we'll most likely end up doing so I can complete my Master's degree without a massive amount of debt.

  2. Currently, the answer is no.  The GI Bill that is currently is use is non-transferable..either the military member uses it or it goes to waste.  There are plans to try and change this, but as of yet it has not happened and it is unlikely to be retroactive to people who joined before the new laws were enacted.

  3. You may not transfer your Montgomery GI Bill.  However, the 2008 GI Bill allows for this under certain circumstances.  This part of the bill is not in effect yet and will not be until approx. August 09.

  4. Can't do it.  My husband is in the Marines and wanted to transfer it to me and they said "no-go", so he is using it now.

  5. Not at the moment but they are trying hard to make that happen. It also will include your children if they are able to pass it.

  6. under the current bill : NO

under the new one:  you must re enlist after having served a minimum of ten years, you forfeit some other re enlistment bonuses and you can only transfer part of the Bill.

Annie: the bill has passed and it WILL be retroactive to anyone who chooses to transfer their current eligibility to the new program.  anyone who enlists Post August 2009 will automatically get the new version.  anyone who enlisted prior can opt to transfer to the new one assuming they have paid their $1200 into the old one.
