I am attending a community college in California for my first year here to get residency. I've heard you need 60 units before you can transfer to a 4 year school? Is this true? And if not what do i need to do to make sure I can get into a University for next year?

  1. The UC schools require you to have 60 credits, so you could not transfer into one after one year.  I'm not sure about the CSU schools.  But if you are good enough to get into one of the UC schools, it would be better to wait rather than go to a CSU school.

  2. i think so.

  3. In my state, you can transfer into a 4 year university after just one semester. However, I would talk to someone from admissions to be sure, but I don't see why it would be a problem to transfer. The only thing would be you wouldn't get an associates degree, but that shouldn't be a big deal if you plan on getting a bachelors degree.

  4. Yeah

  5. You will not gain residency by going to a community college. California is one of the toughest states or everyone would try this.

  6. you need 60 units minimum to do a junior level transfer. You can apply as a low division transfer if you have less than 30 units, but meet all requirements for your intended major. it's better to apply as a junior level transfer because you save much more money per unit!

  8. nonot at all, you dont even have to go to a comunity college at all before you go to a four year, community college can save some major moola though!

  9. After graduating from a community college you can transfer to a 4 year university because you can not graduate until you have reached 60 credit hours anyway. However, many student attend a four year university straight from high school so if you wish to transfer to a 4 year university you can but the university may or may not accept all of the classes you have taken at the community college. Have a great day!
