I would like to travel from Chicago to Lake Geneva by train or bus. I would also consider taking a cab for part of the journey if the fare was less than about $40.

Does anyone know if its possible to do this?

Thanks.

  1. Am Trak goes from Chicago to Tomah, Wi. There are periodical stops along the way.You could have some one pick you up at the nearest train depot. I rode only once that way. Can't tell you the exact stops. You can call 1-800-GO-RAIL. It the best way. Bus is slow and not the cleanest. I highly recommend the rail and it was only $33.00 from the windy city to Tomah so it will cost you less!

  2. Sure

  3. You can take metra out to Antioch but Lake Geneva is still 30 miles away. Amtrak goes nowhere near Lake Geneva. Metra's Northwest line out to Harvard has a couple trains that branch off to Woodstock but still no direct connection to lake Geneva.

30 years ago the C&NW ran commuter trains thru Lake Geneva all the way to Williams Bay. All gone now.

I suggest you check out the bus lines.

Also try getting the Lake Geneva chamber of commerce or the State of Wisconsin  travel bureau on the internet for more info. In the fall there may even by some tour groups running trips from Chicago up to LG.

Good Luck from a former Cheese Head!   Octoberfest is soon.
