Question:

Can I travel outside the country before my US Citizenship Ceremony Oath?

I had planned a vacation trip right before my US citizenship interview. Now that I took the interview, I received a letter for the oath ceremony that falls on the exact day I flight out on vacation. My flight doesn't leave till midnight, but not sure if I can travel. Obviously I can't get a US passport that same day, but I do have a mexican issued passport that will expire in 2 years. Can I still use it as I remain mexican citizen under dual citizenship? Can I reschedule my Oath ceremony till after my travel date? Is that an acceptable excuse to reschedule?

I need help!

  1. You can change the day you take the oath once for a minor reason.  You can take your naturalization certificate with you to get back into the US.  I personally would postpone the day you take the oath.
