Can I trim the roots on lucky & lotus bamboo?

I just purchased a lotus bamboo, i know lucky & lotus bamboo require the same kind of maintenance. However, can I trim their roots without harming the plant? The roots on the lotus seem to be a little too long and the container is clear glass where I am unable to hide the roots under the rocks like I can with my lucky bamboo.

  1. Based on my experience, I say go at it. Nothing I ever did to my lucky bamboo harmed it. This included cutting it in half (due to excessive growth) and transplanting out of undersized jars.

    Good Luck.
