Question:

Can I tutor?

I am 14 years old. I thought of becoming a tutor for younger kids (KS3 SATS, or GCSE Maths, or anything below that level) because sometimes tutors are very expensive. But I don't know how to get recognition.

Can anyone help?

  1. You do not "need" to have anything to be an independent tutor, although people may want their children to have a tutor with a teacher prep education/ college level ed.  If you have very good grades and display responsibility to families, they may want to hire you based on your strengths as a student and your ability to relate to their children since you are younger.  I would put an ad in your local newspaper, with any kind of service work you may do, recognition for good grades/ good student, etc.  You may need to be willing to work for cheaper than a regular tutor that has a college education though.  Good luck!

  2. It may be hard for people to hire you to tutor because of your age. Usually people are looking for people with some sort of higher education, at least that is what I have found. I was told I would be a good tutor as I am majoring in Elementary Education.
