Can I use Aim on my blackberry curve without the data plan?

Question

My old phone broke so i quickly updated to the blackberry curve from t-mobile. I want to wait until my next billing period to add the data plan but I'm big on using AIM. I have unlimited messaging and the AIM application already on my phone. Is there any way I can use it until then or am I screwed until next month? Thanks =/
