Question:

Can I use BA/American Airlines air miles on another carrier?

The question I have is that my BA frequent flier account expires Nov. 8. We have a family trip we'd like to take to Florida in October. BA obviously doesn't do domestic travel. There are no flights available on BA's partner, American Airlines, on the dates we are traveling. Can I use these miles on a carrier who isn't a partner? Can I sell them for cash to buy tickets on another airline? I can't renew my BA membership because I am no longer flying with them but I hate to lose the air miles that I have accumulated. Any suggestions?

  1. If they have codeshare you can use if not you can't use go to their website to see which airlines are in their proram. I think it called one but not sure.

  2. yes you can, as long as its a member of the oneworld alliance =]

  3. As someone else mentioned, its possible you can earn points with an online purchase or something to keep the account active.

Unfortunately BA does not allow cash sales and is not a member of points.com's transfer service.    You cannot use the miles out of network.

  4. I am assuming you are British Airways executive club member. It seems you can apply your miles to other partner airlines. Are you sure American Airlines does not have service from your home town to Florida? I find it hard to believe. I suggest you should call the frequent flyer member services at 1 800 452 1201 to get answers to your question. Below is a link that you can use as well. I know many airlines can nenew your miles with a small fee. I nenewed my miles by donating a small amount of miles to some needy children's fund. These days you can accummulate by dining at certain places or buying magazines or similar things. Look up info on their website or call them. Good luck.
