Can I use Discover Card in Mexico City ?

Question

I will be on a business trip in Mexcio City (Cuernavaca) March 21st to March 31st this year.

I would like to know if I can use Discover Card or Visa Card in Mexico City?

I'm a bit worried about carrying boat loads of cash on me..and I'm not so keen on using my ATM.

Any advice is appreciated.

They will take a Visa or MasterCard a major resorts and some restaurants.  What I do is bring down traveler checks.  They can be exchanged at the hotel or a money exchange.  If you loose them they cam also be replaced.

You won't have a lot of Luck with a Discover card. You want a Visa.

You are right to worry about carrying cash on you especially in Mexico City because that place can be terrifying. Just don't go out at night and certainly NEVER alone and you should be fine.

You can take a little bit of $ with you, my advice is to change your money over ONLY at banks because they won't rip you off. Don't do it at the airport.

You could always do Travelers Checks (definitely go with American Express if you do that), but I actually think the ATM is a really good alternative too, they are all over the place in Mexico. The only downside to that is that the fees can run kinda high.

You need to call the customer service number on your card and tell thm you will be in mexico and the dates. It actually IS best to use your ATM card.  You should also call that company and tell them you will be in mexico to be sure your card will work there.  I am an American living in Mexico and use my cards all the time...the company just needs to know it is YOU.

Don't know for sure about Discover, but I know Mexico honors Visa and Mastercard.

No they don't recognize Discover cards.  Master and VISA only

i don't see why they would but make sure to let discover know that you are traveling so they don't shut your card of when you use it.
