Can I use Sun Glasses To Make A Fire?

Question

I know it sounds weird but instead of a magnifying glass to make a fire can i use sunglasses or reading glasses??

Please get quick with the answers as im going camping tomorow.

Sun glasses wont work because they are made to block out the uv rays,but if you try regular reading glasses,and they work ,let me know!

no,sorry they block light from passing through.go buy some $1 reading glasses at cvs that should work if you know how to do it!have fun!=)

Um, I don&#039;t think so... but you can wear them while watching a fire to keep the glare down.  :)

No you cant use sun glasses to make a fire. To make a fire , Either you  need temparature or concentrate the sunrays to a single point  , Both of which are not possible using sunglasses .

Reading glasses would be your best bet.  Anything that you can magnify the Sun&#039;s rays with.  A magnifying glass would work too.  But I would take a BIC brand lighter.  Those things are a must when you go camping.

reading glasses are essentially the same lens as a magnifying glass, and will work.  It will be much easier, however if you just take matches or a disposable lighter along.

Sunglasses wouldn&#039;t work since they block UV rays.  Reading glasses may work.

You can&#039;t use sun glasses because the stop the sun instead of refracting and concentrating the sunlight. Reading glasses should work well. They are very cheap and you can get them at almost any store.

Reading glasses will work better. Sunglasses, with the possible exception of the reflecting type, should work too. It doesn&#039;t matter that they block UV rays; you want the other end of the spectrum (IR) to start the fire. If you put some water in the concave side of the glasses, that might make them easier to start a fire with.
