Can I use Windows 98 with a Canon Powershot SD750?

Specs show that it requires a minimum of Windows 2000. But I have Windows 98. Is there a way around this? I'm finding it is that way with many cameras. I would hate to have to buy a new computer just to use a new camera.

  1. Windows 98 doesn't recognize some USB devices very well and requires drivers for those devices.  Since Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft, hardware manufacturers have stopped developing drivers for Win98.  This includes camera manufacturers.

Basically, all this means is that your computer probably won't know what to do when you connect the camera to the PC.  One thing you can try is looking for a USB card reader for your SD card.  Card readers with cards in them show up as mass storage devices.  It may or may not work out-of-the-box with your computer.  For assurance, see if you can get a card reader that has drivers for Win98.

That's the trouble with clinging to an old operating system.  As time goes by and you purchase new hardware and peripherals, you're just going to run into compatibility problems.  Might be time for you to save up $300 for a cheap new desktop.

  2. you will have to buy a card reader
