Can I use a 1066MHz CPU on a 1600/1333MHz Motherboard?

With RAM, you can pick a DDR2 667 on a mobo that uses DDR2 800. Does this rule apply with processors? The CPU I picked out has a FSB of 1066MHz. The motherboard says on the FSB line 1600/1333MHz. I also downloaded the manual for this board and it says it supports 1333/1066/800MHz FSB. Can anyone reassure me that the CPU and motherboard will or will not work?

  1. yes it will. asus product page confirms intel 06 ver processor.

  2. there's no good reason it shouldn't work, and in the unlikely event that it doesn't, simply return it.

  3. Your good to go. I recommend the DDR2 800

  4. Yes, it will work. Had it been reversed, the motherboard would only work at 1066, but since it is the CPU it will make no difference to it.
