I have a Gateway laptop and I tried to use it the other day and it came up with a message that said that a Windows file was corrupt and windows could not open. It said to use a cd-rom for windows and reinstall windows again. I have a Dell laptop my work gave me and it came with a Windows CD for a dell computer. I tried to use that and the cumputer eventually says one of the files will not download and to try a new disc. my mother has a Windows vista disc but I don't want to s***w up my computer to no return so I want to wait and see if I can find a gateway disc. will the dell disc work or is it getting the message because it is a dell disc on a gateway computer. Thanks For any information that will help.

  1. no, you can't use the Dell disc on your gateway laptop.Dell disc are specifically for Dell computers only ! So as in other brands !

  2. Windows disks belong to Microsoft

    Your computer belongs to you

If you are interested, you shouldn't use it for other machines - the price of Windows comes with the machine you buy - but Microsoft are more interested in World Domination, so although it's not strictly legal, they do encourage people to steal, copy, and abuse it any way they like.

Every time someone installs Cracked windows, they help support the MS domination plan. In this country, Windows is discounted to 10% full retail price!

  3. My answer is - Maybe.

However, there is another way. Win XP has something called system file checker, or SFC, which allows you to extract the corrupt file alone, from a Windows CD. Certainly seems worth a look here,, try an internet search.

If all else fails, there are plenty of "cracked " win CDs out there.
