Can I use a Dish Network DVR to record TV w/out Dish Network service? I'm left without the Dish Network service and am back to plain old rabbit ears analog TV. Can I use the DVR to record TV w/out modifications? If so........How?

  1. As a general rule, no.

The receiver in the DVR is specific to Dish Networks.

Sat tv uses a different frequency and modulation method than broadcast tv so its not an easy conversion.

  2. no, Dish DVR will not record or time shift anything if the service has been terminated. Only Direct Tv will time shift without subscripton but they will not schedule or timer record.
