My husband is deployed and we wanted to switch cell phone company's. Can I open a cell phone account in my husbands name (he has better credit then me) using a POA? I would need to get 2 phones. By the way..it would be with Verizon. Thanks!

  1. We aren't with Verizon, but our company let me do everything I needed with just a general POA.

  2. Ha, ha, ha.  Good luck.  I can only tell you my experience with Verizon.  While I loved their service they would NOT accept my POA for making changes to the account or anything.  Sucks to be them because my original change was going to be new phones and a new 2 year contract.  Gotta say that after 6 years of DH telling them every time we had to call them or that they called us to offer new service that I was allowed to make changes and get information and could they "please" add my name...well, to make a long rant against them short, they still won't deal with me despite the numerous requests to add my name as an authorized user and faxing the POA in multiple times, DH is now closing the account.

  3. Yes. You should be able to use it with a general POA and a copy of his deployment orders.

  4. Call Verizon and ask them.  Some companies will accept a POA, others won't.

  5. I did the exact same thing while my hubby was deployed. You can do it with a GENERAL power of attorney. Take it with you to the store, or if you are doing it online or on the phone you will need to scan it and email it to Verizon so they have it on file.

  6. If the POA is a specific one not a General POA, thats' what they are for so yes!
