Can I use a Road Bike in the City...?

Well, I know an urban model would be better for riding in the streets of a big city, but because of its light weight I'd like to ride a Road Bike... anyway, I don't want to hear many 'I told you... ' if anything goes wrong with this type of bike; do you think that is possible to enjoy urban rides on a road bike?

  1. Depends on the bike.

Those with a more upright seating position allow you to take in the scenery (if any), be more visually aware of traffic hazards, and be slightly more visible than a road bike that puts you in a more aggressive position.

  2. Sure, a lot of people use road bikes.

  3. I ride my carbon road bike to work without trouble.  I have learned where every crack and pothole is by riding the same route over and over again.  Even road debris begins to look familiar after a while, so the hazards are not as great as you would think.

I had considered buying a hybrid/commuter bike, but I'm glad that I didn't.  I would never have joined a cycle club and ridden centuries without the road bike.

  4. i see a lot of people every day riding their road bike to work.  it makes sense because unless you work on top of a mountain, generally you will cycle on flat roads to work

  5. why not? I do..
