...Before 9am on the return journey from Taunton to Southampton Central (via Salisbury) on Monday 5th November? Just to clarify, my outward journey was from Southampton Central to Taunton (via Salisbury) and I want to return to Southampton Central from Taunton. Huge thanks to anyone who can answer such a specific question!

P.S. No 'Just look at the website' answers please! Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt.

  1. Hiya

Just had a look for you on nationalrail.co.uk. I come up with this for you.

    http://ojp2.nationalrail.co.uk/en/pj/fa?...

Should be able to make some sence of it. You can use a saver/day return.

If you have difficulties then goto your local National Rail station and ask at the booking office or you can give First Great Western a call on 08457 000 125 and then you could ask the customer service advisors youe question. You probabbly would get a more clear answer by calling them.

Good luck and have a safe journey!

  2. Unfortunatley no, you do have to wait for the restrictions to be lifted. Normally for a journey like that its just after 9am as you are not going to London, but some of the trains may terminate in London causing the restriction.

  3. I've had a quick look at a train fare manual, in particular Saver Return restrictions for journeys:

"TO/FROM/VIA SALISBURY, WESTBURY/ YEOVIL TO/FROM STATIONS IN ENGLAND"

The relevent bit for your journey is that it says:

         Bristol-Westbury-Salisbury direction: ..

        FROM

    Bristol Temple M-  08:53.

    Westbury- 08:52.

This means that you can get the first train which connects into the above station, in time for the train. (e.g. arriving Bristol at 08:40, when this is the last connection in time for the 08:53, but can't use any earlier trains)

There isn't any direct Taunton-Westbury trains via Castle Cary, on First Great Western, which can save you travelling via Bristol Temple M, according to Nationalrail. You would therefore have to do:
