Can I use a UK visit visa for Scottland & Ireland?

I am visiting UK over the New Year and am interested in visiting Scottland & Ireland but want to know if I need separate visit visas or can I use the UK visit visa?

The Republic of Ireland is a separate and independent country; Dublin is it's capital.  Northern Ireland, whose capital is Belfast, is part of the United Kingdom which also includes England, Scotland, and Wales.  You'll be fine with an entry to the UK to visit all of these, except the Republic of Ireland.

The entries before here were right about Scotland, it's the same as the UK, you can just drive right through if you want.  But going to Ireland requires going through their customs.  I took the ferry from Holyhead, Wales, to Dublin, Ireland...got off the boat, they stamped my passport and said "Welcome to Ireland."  That was the extent of it, for me (but I also have a US passport, so I think it was easier...it's even easier if you have an EU member country passport.)  If you're from somewhere like Saudi Arabia or North Korea, you might have a little bit tougher time, but all in all, it's pretty easy.

You have stepped on a political landmine here (pardon the pun everyone!)  Who rules/owns etc  the island of Ireland is a long and difficult discussion that you did not intend to ask.

Your Visa for the UK is for the United Kingdon of Great Britain and Nothern Ireland (Which includes Scotland and Wales)

Depending on your citizenship and the visa you may be allowed to enter the Republic of Ireland for a short visit.

You will need to contact the Irish Embassy or Consulate where you are to find this out.
